This place lived up to its reputation. Places like these make me wonder how other chippies can get it so wrong. The guys behind the counter care about what they're serving. I chose to eat in as I'm not local. No raw uncooked batter on the cod to be seen. Absolutely crispy all over. The fish was fresh too, really big flakes and no fishy smell. Good chips too. Not too soggy and not too crispy. I accidentally ordered too much for my niece and when it came to pay the bill a genuine look of concern was on the face of the chap taking payment and he asked if there was an issue with the meal. None whatsoever. Will definitely be coming back again when I fancy some fish and chips!
A little bit of a delayed review, but I visited Golden Chippy in Greenwich in October 2019. Was looking for a good place to eat in Greenwich, and coming from Australia, we wanted to see how the British did their fish and chips. It was a little bit of a walk from the Greenwich train station, but nothing too exhausting. It is only a very small shop- we actually walked past it initially! We were early for lunch so there was seating available for us- however I could imagine that at a busier time that there would not be enough seats. The welcome was warm and I was surprised we got table service! I got the standard cod, he got the large cod. And why it was definitely large! Came with a side of chips and salad, well presented. The best part was the homemade tartare sauce- absolutely amazing! The pricing was reasonable for UK and we had a wonderful meal. At the end we were stuffed but the even offered us a top up of chips if we wanted! Absolutely welcoming and great quality fish and chips. Highly recommend!
Had a nice meal here of quality products. Family run business and staff were excellent as was the service. Great to grab a quick takeaway, good selection and to take back to your hotel, probably cheaper too. All in all a good place for food and easily accessible. Open upto 11pm daily. A little more expensive than your regular chippy but as said quality good.
Hands down the best fish and chips I had in London. It’s a rather small, cushy place so don’t expect a huge restaurant when you arrive but the food... it’s absolutely delicious. I’m a regular there as they’re very local and boy their fish and chips is perfect every time. Don’t forget about fantastic atmosphere and service- they’re a really lovely bunch of people!
Really good place to eat a real fish and chips. Very good quality and price! The staff is really friendly and makes you stay comfortable in there. I was in here two years ago and I have repeated (and if I come to London again, I will come for sure!!)
